5 x7 oil on masonite nfs
Not quite through with my current painting so
thought I'd post this one that I did about 10 years
ago. It was my first oil painting. At the time it was a
Miniature. I found it extremely difficult because my
Mural work was always so large. Seems funny now since
practically all of my work is 6 x 6" instead of 8 x 10 feet!
The scene itself was from a photo I took in
London where they still used glass milk bottles.
I am old enough to remember when all of our milk
products were delivered. Wish they still were, particulary
since the refillable bottles make so much more sense
than the wax-covered non-recyclable cartons or plastic
bottles that our disposable society uses today.

I like it and Thursdays painting is hot. Always a pleasure stopping your blog.
HOley Cow!!! I thought this was at least 11x14! Did you use brushes that had one, two and three hairs in them> Lovely little jewel!

a lovely composition and very atmospheric: feeling of morning light when milk bottles would be found delivered.
Nice painting!
Hi Gwen,
This has such a feeling of London.
I love the light, the door, the step.
Beautiful. You make me want to go back.

Brilliant miniature work Gwen.
Oh how I remember the days in the UK growing up with the milk delivered and the break and veggies.
We also has free milk at school in very small glass bottles.
In the winter the milk was frozen so we had to thaw it out on the hot water pipes around the classroom.
Thank you for sharing something that you painted 10 yrs ago. It's nice to look back sometimes.
I love this one just do it again maybe a bigger version?
Go for it Hot Gwen!!!
Are you serious, Gwen? This was your FIRST oil painting? I feel like I should curl up and crawl away! This is fabulous!
We can still get milk delivered here in bottles - a few dairy farms remain..
Mornin' Gwen, this is awesome.....I thought it was a photo at first and said to myself "that would make a beautiful painting" LOL
Nice palette of colors for this one, Gwen. A rather elegant feel to this piece. Nice highlights on the edges of the wooden door, they pick up on the other lines and edges in the painting.

It's so much fun to go own memory lane! Great subject matter.
Your realism is of such high quality, Gwen! I also notice a very lovely design of peppers among the previuos works!
For a first oil painting this is sheer elegance! And I too miss the delivery of milk in glass bottles. We also had bread and bakery delivered to the house. This was in the early 50's in a suburb of Toronto - horse drawn wagons brought these things to our street. You can't recycle milk containers where you are? Up here we can but have to collect and take them ourselves to specified recycle stores - all milk product containers are taken. If only we could have the many advantages of today's technology sanely combined with the common sense practices of yesteryear...
Gwen,
I am blown away that this was your first oil painting? It is wonderful. Love the composition and the reflections of the bottles on the front stoop! Well done- love your artwork.
Wonderful, wonderful painting! Love the color palette.
Well it's no wonder that your first was fabulous....you are a magnificent artist....gifted yes!
Your first painting?!! Wow! Talented from the beginning! This is a wonderful painting. :-)
Gwen,
I am very impressed if this was your first oil painting. I painted over my first one, many times, in fact.
This painting is absolutely amazing..and to think this one was your first. You don't want to see my first!! I, also, remember the good old days when milk products were delivered to our door! Again, beautiful painting that almost looks like a photo!!
Wow Gwen. I love milk in glass bottles. Really nice.
I can't believe this was your first oil painting - I would have killed to start my oil painting career with this one!
I too remember milk being delivered to our house as I grew up in London. The best bit was being the first one to open the bottle in the morning and getting the cream off the top on to my cereal! mmm
So beautiful, and it has such a lovely vintage feel. Love it!!!
Great piece! Those reflections on the tile are perfect!
This is my favorite of yours, I love the feeling it gives to the viewer.
