Ok...I'm going to be in so much trouble with
this post! I rarely do figure painting. The last
one I did was of my oldest son, Mike, in his Superman
T-Shirt. I promised my daughter-in-law that the
next one would be of my youngest son, Mark
And I really wanted to! But when Angela Elledge
posted that the theme for this month's challenge
on her site, "Some Texas Artists Like To Paint" was
"Cowboy Up", I immediately knew the photo reference
I had to use. I'm sorry, Alisha, but I didn't have any photos
of Mark in a cowboy hat and boots! I looked through all of
my photos hoping to find one I could adapt of Mark but knew
this one of Mike was perfect for the challenge.
My Dad always wore his cowboy hat and boots. Mike idolized
his Grandpa and as soon as he could talk he started demanding his
own hat and boots. This photo was taken when he was around
2 years old and it's one of my all-time favorites of him.
Mark, I promise, I'll do 2 paintings of you to make up for the imbalance!

this is ADORABLE!!! I can't stop smiling gazing at this wonderful portrait...I second Dana's suggestion of doing more figure painting.
This is such a cute picture of Michael. You should do more figure painting. You really captured the little boy I remember.
I sooo get it! I haven't started a painting I'm dyin' to do 'cause I know I'll hear about it from my son. I have one grandchild whose face I love to paint. But I have 9 other grandkids (and their parents) who might get bent noses if I do another one of her before them. I was thinking about it all day and then saw your post and had to laugh. So many people, so little time. This little cowboy painting of yours is simply precious! Good luck with the contest.

It's kind of fun to take a break from still life, isn't it? While you were painting,did your mind wander to thoughts of your little boy? That's what happened to me when I painted my grandmother. You did a marvelous job on this, Gwen.
it's fabulous and I just want to say that your paintings are getting better and better.
I am going to take the plunge and tackle some fabric with patterns.
We'll see how I do.

:) You WILL be in trouble, I bet! Great painting. But if I may - You are Gwen Bell, queen of patterned fabrics. I think this Lil Dude, or the next one, needs a colorful bandana to really put the Gwen Bell mark on it! He's very handsome without it too, though!
