8 x 10 oil on canvas panel SOLD
And now for something completely different!
I haven't painted clouds in probably 5 years. I
painted so many clouded ceiling murals that my
neck hurt at the mere mention of clouds! But thanks
to Angela Elledge's group site, "Some Texas Artists
Like To Paint" monthly theme of "Skies", I found
myself painting clouds again and enjoying it...probably
because it is 8 x 10 inches instead of 8 x 10 feet.
The weather here in Texas is extremely unpredictable.
It can be 80 degrees one day and 32 the next. Blue skies
turn into angry dark storm clouds in a matter of minutes.
Sometimes the tornado warnings go off before you even
know it's supposed to rain. No kidding! We are trained
to watch the weather report daily in order to get a sense
of what might happen. I'd say they are right about 60%
of the time.
I suppose everyone of a certain age went through the
Duck & Cover drills in school. I'll have to ask Angela (she's
a teacher), but I'm pretty sure they still do it here in Texas
because of the real risk of Tornadoes. I can't tell you how
many times in my life I've grabbed the kids, the dog and a
mattress and headed for the bathtub. Apparently, Twisters
don't like plumbing.

You have scary weather in Texas and this painting shows it well!
This is great! Love the emotion.
Great job on the sky, Gwen! Yes, Texas has more than its fair share of "tomatoes" (as my granddaughter used to say). I had to laugh at your description of duck and cover with the mattress in the bathtub!! :-)
I lived in Houston for 13 years and went through many hurricanes. The skies do get very dark and ominous which you captured well Gwen!
Love the mood.
Un petit coin de ciel bleu, comme dans votre coeur...
Très jolis bouts de nuages...
J'aime voir avancer en jouant les nuages dans le ciel.
En revanche je craindrais vos ouragans...
Bisous
That does sound unpredictable weather! I love how you have painted the sky, very dramatic, and they are very hard to paint.
OK, you forgot to paint the cherubs and other angels. Looks like this belongs on a church mural.
Crazy about this piece. What a great sky and yes very scary.
I would love to see more of TX sky.
With love from me and our friendly sky.
I can feel the storm brewing in this painting... yikes!

This is nice and moody, Gwen. I love it! Just proves how versatile you are. Great job!
ooh and ahh is what I say. A wonderful piece!
Really nice Gwen! I have never seen one of your cloud paintings but this one is super. Can not imagine painting on a ceiling. I think life is too short for that.
This is so different for you Gwen. I love it. It looks like a very angry sky..great colors and I can almost smell that rain coming! Well done.
beautifully handled clouds... i guess your talent for clouds lay latent and developed quietly in the background of all your other work. i do think there comes a point in art where the brain carries on sifting and analysing even when we are not painting... and all the bad experiences like painful necks is forgotten;)
Gwen, Very dramatic. Nice job. Clouds are SO hard to paint. Thanks for visiting my blog.
You're in the EBSQ Friday Five: Fresh Pressed Art for November!
Wonderful drama in your clouds!
Beautiful!
I love your sky painting!! Beautiful colors. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about twisters. The only thing to watch out here for is earthquakes. In fact, my house is sitting on the largest earthquake fault in California (San Andreas). :(
I love that sky... wow so dramatic Fantastic job Gwen.
That sky would make me head for cover! Great painting, Gwen!
What a beautiful atmospheric effect!
Scary weather...great painting. So dramatic and the colors heighten that sense of foreboding.
Beautiful cloud study--can't wait to see more!
Who would of thought of painting just clouds and producing such a beautiful painting! Love the colours and the atmosphere of the painting, wonderful.
You are just amazing. This sky is masterful! And I love to hear the 'twister' stories, too. Soooo different from New England!
Happy Thanksgiving, Gwen!
This is amazing!! And loved the Texas Painters site - may have to join. Love their painting challenges. Love the portrait on today's daily painter site too! You are trying all kinds of new things. Love it all.
What a beauty. You really captured the mood of the sky.
Love the intensity~
Gwen this sky is so atmospheric and dramatic! Very beautiful.
Nice! from a fellow cloud-loving painter.
