Last week I painted a Bucket of Bows. Now, here
is my little Bottle of Bows.
I know I usually do a
crazy patterned background, but this dotted ribbon
seemed to call for simplicity. Instead, I tried to pull
in other circular objects.

I am happy to report that I loosened up on this one quite
a bit.
I was starting to worry that I had forgotten how!
Rather than using my usual black ground, I used a
medium rose.
I found that the transparent look of
the glass was much
easier on this lighter ground, plus
the colors seem to be
a lot cleaner. I still prefer the
black for most things, but
the lighter one really does
work much better for glass.

Love the painting...love green....nice how all of the circular shapes work together - the limes, the little circles on the ribbon, the glass jar, the circular shape as it winds around the jar. It feels good and then finishing it off with the ribbon trailing down and guiding the eye nicely up and down the arrangement. ...You keep creating such cool arrangements on these little canvases and they work perfectly. Amazing! Look forward to the next one.

So sweet!Love the greens here. The painting looks cool because of limited palette and the use 0f medium rose for the background.

Gwen, Thanks for this! I felt like I needed a Gwen Bell fix. You had addicted me to these fun, color co-ordinated paintings!

Great green and mauve combo. The reflections are really clean and crisp, although they always seem great to me, no matter what ground you start with! Love the funky ribbon.

i misread the title as 'battle of bows' & thought the ribbon had one a game of king of the mountain! the whole painting's delightful, but i esp like the way you did the glass - caught it perfectly! thank you for sharing this!

I love the green and I can feel/see the freedom in your brush strokes.Good idea to have pink as under paint.
The limes are a cute add on.And than you used them for your tea?

I love that you tackle patterns and now bows - these things are so hard but the results are well worth it!

I thought I commented on this one, Gwen, but I guess I only THOUGHT about it! So wonderful, so imaginative (ribbon in a jar? with LIMES?), and MAN it works!

What beautiful greens. Just finished teaching a color workshop and this painting would have been the perfect example in mixing wonderful greens.
