"Bakshie"

6 X 6 oil on masonite
SOLD

Dog #1 for James Parkers Windows To The
World Art challenge. 2 more to go? We'll see.

I chose Bakshie for the #1 dog because he has
that intelligent wolf/dog look to him. Very alert
with keen eyes. I also liked the
challenge of having
half of his face in shadow except
for that one bright
spot over his eye.
I've always been drawn to wolves
and wonder why
I've never painted them. Maybe this
will be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Beautiful. He is looking right at me. Love your use of warm and cool "whites" and the touch of pink in his ear.

You are right, the strong side lighting in the reference makes for a very beautiful painting. This is so well done, love the strong contrast of lights and darks, that little bit of pink in his ear is perfect, and you have realistically captured his ultra thick hair. Isn't it great when all of that happens on one little square with a bunch of wet paint and a brush? :-)

Marvelous, Gwen!!!~ Your Bakshie has made himself at home on WTTW. Linked and munching on Pokey and TacoBelle's doggie biscuits.

Gwen!

This dog portrait turned out amazing!

Lots of details here for a painting so small.

The blues in the shadows go so well with the whites and browns in the fur.

What a handsome dog!

WOW- you really captured this dog's inquisitive intelligence. Beautiful handling of the light, just gorgeous. I read your profile and I share your admiration for the daily painters. I am only recently able to paint full time for 'me', and I believe the blogging process will be educational and expansive...ie, a way to communicate w/ other artists. I like your work, and will visit often.

One of your best paintings Gwen and that's reflected in the number of comments youve had on it. The brush work is wonderful.
