12 X 12 oil on masonite SOLD

It was the coldest day of the year and my cat, Smokie,
found the sunniest spot in the yard and stayed there all day.

This was my first "loose" painting. I'm happy with the
left corner and the pink illuminated ear. However, I am
fighting the urge to correct the mouth, chin and nose.
Part of the learning experience will be to leave it alone.
New Mantra: Accept Imperfection.

I have several lovely cats to use as models but have yet to master a painting of one of them. Yours is super. Nice blog too.

Also your back-lighting is excellent.

Gwen, I just discovered your blog - really nice work! In this cat painting, it's nice the way the ear area is such a focal point and it's in sharper focus, and everything else fades out into soft focus (including the mouth and nose and chin, which I think look great)... It's very restful for the eyes to have just one area of focus. And I never think about this myself when I paint, but seeing your painting is reminding me I need to do that! As a side note, I'm from Dallas also. :)
